About the system
SafeXRad® system
SafeXRad® is a telemetric device based on phase array radar technology that fits into the smart cities concept. The device does not capture images and is therefore fully GDPR compliant.
The SafeXRad ® system categorizes vehicles based on their size, direction and speed. It groups the observed
vehicle categories based on the lane they are in and speed and derives further data (such as following distance)
from it.
The system can easily be installed and configured. Its use is versatile and it is usable on almost any road section.
Its many applications include traffic counting, collecting speed and following distance data, analysing the
behaviour of observed traffic actors, and using these to inform traffic management decisions.

In order to prevent runaway accidents, which are a major problem due to non-compliance with the following distance, our system can monitor the following distance between vehicles, which can be displayed immediately on the road section, and this data can greatly help the decisions and work of city planners and city authorities.
Design
The SafeXRad® Design
The system is mounted on an existing or newly installed pole at a height of 3.5 m for optimal operation. It is electrically powered by a street lighting fibre or, in its absence, typically by a 115 W solar panel.
The system consists of one boxed radar element (size: 115x90x65 [mm]) and one control box (size: 355x255x122 [mm]) containing the batteries, charge controller and control unit.
The system can be viewed as a 3D model in the attached figure, and can even be placed on site as augmented reality by clicking on the AR logo.
